I signed for Liverpool four months before Jurgen Klopp joined – that was the mood

A Liverpool goalkeeper has recalled the gloomy mood around Anfield in the final days of Brendan Rodgers’ tenure.

“So the atmosphere, honestly, wasn’t great. I know what that stadium is like on its best days, but that just wasn’t the case during my arrival.

“You could feel the frustration around the place, about the style of play, results, the way we conceded goals. It was hard.”

So when Rodgers was sacked following a 1-1 draw in the Merseyside derby, Bogdan was not at all surprised. He added: “The day Brendan Rodgers lost his job, I know everyone is thinking about that moment when Jamie Carragher was caught in the (Sky Sports) studio.

“But it didn’t really surprise me at the time, to be honest. You felt something was wrong between the fans, the players and the management.”

The mood around the club was soon restored when Jurgen Klopp was appointed a few weeks later. Bogdan said: “And then Jurgen Klopp comes in. He’s just a normal guy.

“He speaks very well, and his intensity was higher than we’ve experienced before, right from the start. He asked so much of us.

“Jurgen Klopp wanted to do something else, you know it as ‘heavy metal football’, which basically meant causing chaos by pressing up high, not worrying about what’s behind you, but attacking the opposition on the ball with everyone behind you following.

“He was also very positive with the goalkeepers. We got a couple of goals that just weren’t good, and while he admitted that, he also identified several occasions where several things happened in the build-up that could have been avoided, before the goals were scored. admitted.”
