What happens between May 11-17, 2024

Here’s a rundown of some of the main events taking place in South Leeds next week. For complete listings, go to our What’s on the calendar here.

We start Saturday morning with Middleton Makers Market, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewellery, soaps and food; all made by locals.

Leeds Dads will have another free Soft Play session, 10am-12pm Saturday morning at Little Angels behind Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. That’s for dads and pre-schoolers and there’s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org/events

to Trinity Network in Belle Isle, the Community/Reflections Cafe operates from 10am to 12pm with a full English breakfast available. Trinity Network is on Nesfield Road, LS10 3LG

Let’s Move: South Leeds takes place in Beeston’s Cross Flatts Park on Saturday from 12-3pm. This is a great opportunity to learn about local sports clubs and do different activities.

Hunslet Nelson Cricket ClubHis first XI take on a Northowram Field CC at Gipsy Lane in Beeston, LS11 5TT. The match starts at 12 o’clock.

There is a jumble sale at St Peter’s Church, Petersfield Avenue, Belle Isle, LS10 3PF on Saturday afternoon from 1pm to 3pm. Entry 20p

Hunslet ARLFC entertain West Bowling ARLFC on Saturday afternoon at The Oval, opposite Morrisons. The start takes place at 14:30.

Sunday is a busy day at Saint Luke’s church, Malvern Road, Beeston Hill, LS11 8PD. It starts with the monthly family breakfast at 9:30 a.m. You can stay for morning worship at 10:30 a.m., but you don’t have to. Lunch is served at 12.00pm and at 1.00pm I host a Leeds Citizens listening session discussing how Leeds University can better engage with the local community. At 16:00, Mosaic Kitchen will cook an international meal.

Sunday is also seen monthly Farmers market running from 10am to 4pm with loads of good food straight from the producers, at Armories Square, Leeds Dock, LS10 1LT.

The Middleton Skaters have two sessions on Sunday at Middleton Leisure Centre, Ring Road Middleton, LS10 4AX. The family session runs from 14:00 to 16:00 and then there is an adults-only session from 16:00 to 17:00. Essential booking via Facebook group.

Monday, the Greenmounts and Surrounding Tenants and Residents Association meets 6.30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.

There are many Police contact points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions Leeds South Borough Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library in and in the central atrium of the White Rose Shopping Centre, both from 10am to 12pm. On Wednesdays, they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library between 10am and 12pm and outside St Matthew’s Community Center on Holbeck Moor Road between 10.30am and 12pm. Finally, they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday from 10am to 12pm.

The SEN-Tastic the group meets on Thursdays. It is open to anyone caring for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, carers and grandparents and offers coffee, friendship, advice and support. The group runs from 9.15am-10.30am at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD.

Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday from 10am to 12pm, providing support for people to access support services, community activities and longer term support. It also provides families with an essential complement of items such as diapers, wipes, formula and toiletries.

The St Luke’s Tenants and Residents Association will have their bi-monthly meeting on Thursday at Church of St. LukeMalvern Road, LS11 8PD, from 6.30pm.

And finally Leeds United entertain Norwich City in the second leg of the play-offs at Elland Road on Thursday night. The launch starts at 8pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.
