Fulham boss Marco Silva confirms Jay Stansfield’s move after loan move from Birmingham City

Marco Silva plans to give Jay Stansfield a chance in the Premier League after his superb loan spell at Birmingham City.

Stansfield returned to parent club Fulham this week after picking up all five gongs at the Blues’ end-of-season awards dinner. The 13-goal striker won the Blues’ Players’ Player of the Season and Supporters’ Player of the Season awards to cap off an excellent first Championship campaign.

After playing in League One for boyhood club Exeter City in 2022/23, Stansfield has moved up a level smoothly and Silva plans to use him in the next tier. “He will be back with us,” Silva told the Evening Standard.

“Everything we planned, apart from Birmingham’s collective goal, which wasn’t what we wanted, was a (ticked) box. He played the previous season in League One, and to be able to step up in the Championship and be an important piece in the forward line and score important goals (was nice). Jay accomplished all the important things. Now is the time for him to come back and be one of the players in our forward line for next season.”

Stansfield will compete for a place in Fulham’s forward line with Raul Jimenez and Rodrigo Muniz next season. The 21-year-old has already made three Premier League appearances.

Speaking to BirminghamLive at the awards dinner on Sunday, Stansfield said: “I don’t want to get ahead of myself, I’ve only had one season in the Championship but (playing in the Premier League) is something I dream about. Hopefully it will come to that one day, but I will take it one step at a time and continue to develop and learn.”
