NEWS: Safe Standing to be introduced for 2024/25 season – News

Coventry City will introduce Safe Standing from the 2024/25 season!

Following a process of consultation, feedback and a successful trial, a safe position will be installed for the upcoming 2024/25 EFL Championship season, resulting in 2,732 seats becoming safe areas.

These areas will be:

  • Block 6 – Rows AA to XX (Away Supporters)
  • Block 7 – Rows AA to XX (Away Supporters)
  • Block 11 – Rows AA to XX
  • Block 12 – Rows AA to XX
  • Block 13 – Rows AA to XX
  • Block 14 – Rows AA to XX

In safe standing areas, each fan has its own dedicated space and seat, with individual rows separated by barriers to prevent falling when fans are raised.

Supporters currently in these areas will have safe standing seats reserved in accordance with the general seat reservation period for other supporters, which will be published with the 24/25 season ticket information in due course.

Those supporters in these areas who do not wish to be in a safe standing area will be able to move their seat to other available seats.

The safe standing solution has been trialled at the Coventry Building Society Arena for games in recent weeks and has proved successful. The safe stadium has been introduced at a number of other stadiums in recent years since being licensed ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Coventry City Football Club has worked closely with Coventry Building Society Arena, Coventry City Council and the Sports Ground Safety Authority for over 12 months to introduce this to the Arena and we would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work and collaboration. Operation.

Earlier this year, the Sky Blues sent out a survey to supporters to gauge their views on being safe, including their preferred location in the Arena for it to be introduced. Over 80% of supporters who completed the survey supported the introduction of a safe stand in the stadium, with over 70% saying the preferred location for the installation was the Singers’ Corner.

John Taylor, Chief Operating Officer at Coventry City, said:

“I would like to thank all the supporters who got involved in the club’s survey earlier this year, as it provided the club with valuable feedback on the matter. The club has sought to balance supporter safety in terms of persistent standing, while also looking to enhance the matchday experience for the Sky Blue Army.”

Paul Michael, Managing Director at Coventry Building Society Arena, said:

“The successful trial run in partnership with the club has proven that standing can be managed safely in designated areas and brings a positive boost to the matchday experience for fans who would prefer to stand during the match.

“We are confident that the creation of safe footing areas will help maintain the incredible atmosphere generated by Sky Blues fans at the Coventry Building Society Arena, which has been a real feature on matchdays over recent years, particularly last season.”

Installation will begin during the summer and be completed before the start of the 24/25 campaign.
