Reaction: Tigers head coach Dan McKellar on the Sale defeat

Leicester Tigers head coach Dan McKellar reacted to the Tigers’ defeat to Sale Sharks in round 17 of the Gallagher Premiership.

“That game probably summed up our season really,” McKellar admitted.

“We will review the season and the team will be better.

“I’ll be a better coach for it, too. The first year is always going to be tough, but now I know the league, the club, the people and believe me, it will be a thorough overhaul of our program.”

A frustrating night for the Tigers saw the home side control the game, the Tigers now look forward to their final game of the season against Exeter at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

“It’s not a night for positives, but what I can’t fault is the players’ commitment to the club,” McKellar said.

“Tonight we had too many turnovers in key areas and gave away too many needless penalties, but the players fought hard and I know they are hurt there because they care deeply about the club.

“Next week is very important for this group. Players who mean a lot to us and our supporters will say goodbye to the club, we have another big crowd coming to Mattioli Woods Welford Road. That matters.

“So we’re not going to purse our lips. We will be ready to work and prepare for Exeter to end this season on a positive note.”
