DWP breaks silence on conditions becoming ‘ineligible’ for PIP

The Department for Work and Pensions has published an update on claims that some health conditions will be removed from the PIP eligibility list. The DWP has issued an update on claims that some health conditions will no longer qualify for PIP.

The DWP has produced a green paper suggesting changes to PIP, including no more cash payments, the introduction of a voucher system and even other assessment and eligibility criteria for claimants receiving payments.




Labor MP Imran Hussain asked if the DWP “has carried out an assessment of the potential impact of the proposed reforms to Personal Independence Payment on the mental wellbeing of people who become ineligible as a result of these changes”.

Disability, Health and Work Minister Mims Davies MP said in response: “Modernising Independent Living Support: The Health and Disability Green Paper looks at different options to reshape the current social care system so we can provide more support well directed to those in need. most.

“We are considering these options through our 12-week consultation which was published on Monday 29 April and will close at 11.59pm on Monday 22 July. Further consideration of these options will consider the potential impact on applicants with various health conditions.”

Ms Davies continued: “There will be no immediate changes to PIP or health assessments. All scheduled PIP assessments and payments will proceed as normal and claimants should continue to work as usual and provide any necessary information or updates about their circumstances.”

Mr Hussain also asked if there had been discussions with the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care about the “adequacy of the availability of government-funded mental health services”.
