One of the most expensive homes in the West Midlands that housed royalties up for sale

One of the most expensive houses in the West Midlands, known as ‘The Queen’s Guesthouse’, has been put on the market. The eight-bedroom house is for sale for £4 million.

The property is a Victorian Grade II listed family home extending to over 13,00 sq ft. It is set over three floors and is described as having high ceilings, deep architraves and gilded and ornate plasterwork on ceilings and cornices to give the house a “stately feel”. It is also described as having a “stunning garden” with private lakes.

It has been family owned since 1717 and every home owner is issued with a 32 page Calthorpe Residents Handbook full of do’s and don’ts for living in the area. They must also pay an annual maintenance fee of £150 per calendar month, Birmingham Live reports.

The property in Birmingham’s Edgbaston, in the heart of the Calthorpe Estate, has been maintained and improved over the years but retains its original Victorian architectural details and features. The listing adds that the home is “elegant, spacious and bright” and has housed members of the royal family since Princess Anne and Princess Margaret.
