The Met Office is issuing a yellow storm warning for parts of Merseyside

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for Merseyside.

Parts of Liverpool and the Wirral could see heavy rain and a chance of thunderstorms this public holiday, May 6. The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning in effect from 1pm to 9pm.




The warning covers parts of south Liverpool – including Speke, Halewood and Huyton. A full map showing areas likely to be affected has been distributed by the weather service.

The warning said: “Thunderstorms and heavy rain are likely to develop in some places this afternoon and evening. or two”.

Here’s what the Met Office said it expected:

  • Spraying and flash flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • There is a small chance that some communities will be cut off by flooded roads
  • Where there is flooding or lightning, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations of train and bus services
  • There is a small chance that power outages will occur and other services to some homes and businesses will be lost
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses will be flooded quickly, with some buildings damaged by floodwaters, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.
  • There is a small chance that fast-flowing water or deep flooding could be life-threatening
